Hoops for a Cure
April 15th
9 AM - 6 PM
Help us bring the fight to cancer! Hoops for a Cure is a grassroots effort to raise money in the fight against this disease. The ACPMPRF is the beneficiary of 100% of the proceeds we raise. We started our efforts with our Annual Basketball event, Hoops 4 a Cure, which strives to get participants active and on the court regardless of the skill level. In an effort to expand and bring knowledge to as many people as possible, we have made our efforts two-fold with Santa's Summer 5K, Cancer Walk and Fun Run. Help us raise money to take the fight to cancer!

About Hoops for a Cure
Notable Celebrities who have been diagnosed or passed away from the disease.
Audrey Hepburn
Stuart Scott
Steve Prescott
The Hoops for a Cure Basketball Challenge is starting in 2015 by Scott Montgomery as a way to bring awareness to the community regarding Appendix Cancer and Psuedomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) as well as to help raise money for Appendix Cancer and PMP research. In 2016, he started the Santa's Summer 5K as a way to reach out to more people.
Scott moved to Mooresville in 2006. He is married and has 2 children. He has coached various sports in the Mooresville area since 2009, including soccer, basketball, baseball and football, for organizations such as The Mooresville Rec Dept, SISA and The Mooresville YMCA.
While coaching 2 flag football teams in August of 2013, Scott had his appendix removed, or what was thought to be his appendix. It was at that time that he was diagnosed with metastatic mucinous appendiceal adenocarcinoma, which is a rare form of cancer in which a tumor forms on the appendix. The tumor on the appendix secrets a substance called mucin, which is a jellylike substance that replicates and gradually fills the abdominal cavity creating smaller tumors. In October of 2013, he underwent the "Mother of All Surgeries" - cytoreduction surgery and HIPEC treatment, a heated chemotherapy treatment. Cytoreductive surgery is called "MOAS" for a reason. The surgeon opens up the abdomen and removes as much of the mucin and tumors as possible. Sometimes this can mean removing organs as well. In Scott’s case it was caught fairly early in the process as his type was slow growing. There are several types and variations of this cancer, each with their own treatment options.
After three weeks in the hospital, he returned home for recovery. After many months, Scott now shows no evidence of the disease. There is no known cause or cure for appendix cancer and PMP. The best hope is to show no evidence of the disease.
